Can you go there and find out what the problem is? M:Well, I'm really busy fixing a problem with the marketing director's computer. He asked me to get this repair work finished today. I heard he has to give a lecture at the meeting tomorrow. Can that wait? W:I don't think so. The members of the sales department on the 2nd floor are preparing some reports. They have to meet important customers this afternoon. M:All right. Then, I'll take care of that first. (Text 2) W:Where are you going, Les? M:To the pet shop. I want to buy some cat food for Grace's birthday. She loves her cats and I'm sure she'd like to get some cat food. W:But it's Grace's birthday, not her cats'! She enjoys reading. Let's get her a book. M:OK, let's go to the bookshop then. W:I prefer shopping online. It's easier. M:OK. Let's use Dad's computer. How about this book on cats? It seems to be interesting. It is only 6 dollars. W:That's quite cheap, but she has had that book already. Mum gave it to her for Christmas, remember? M:OK, not this book. What then? Some sweets? W:It's not your birthday. Grace really dislikes eating sweet things. And she wants to lose weight. M:I know what! She loves flowers. Let's get her some. W:Flowers don't last. I prefer to give presents that last. Let's get her a plant then. M:I'd love to give her that! Let's check some pages for plants. (Text 3) Hello, everyone. First let me introduce myself. My name is John Barker, and I work at an institution. As most of you know, I'm here to talk about students' summer jobs. In many parts of the world, university students work in the summer. They need the money, and they can get some working experience. Traditionally, they get jobs as servers, cashiers, and lifeguards at swimming pools. These days, however, more and more students are working at dotcoms. Dotcoms are Internetbased companies which offer goods and services online. Today's young people already know a lot about computers, and they can quickly learn more. The pay is usually much better than at the traditional summer jobs. There are other advantages besides the pay. Students see dotcom jobs as a good start on their future. In addition to providing good experience, the work is also enjoyable for most. On top of this, their coworkers treat them with respect. Dotcoms are new and need new ways of thinking. Imagination is more important than formal qualifications. So some students are even quitting school to start their own dotcoms. 1.It's difficult to make accurate predictions (預(yù)測(cè)) about the effects on the environment. 2. From computers to smartphones, a web of information is open to them. According to a new report from the Pew Research Center, about three out of four kids aged 12 to 13 connect the Internet using a mobile device (移動(dòng)設(shè)備) from time to time. Many younger kids are online too. Julian Zeitlinger, 9, from New Jersey, uses his computer to watch videos and play games. To keep him safe online, his parents monitor (監(jiān)測(cè)) his web use and discuss Internet safety with him. “I ask my parents if something is wrong,” Julian says. Mobile devices offer more ways than ever to share personal information. The information can be dangerous in the wrong hands. A study found that 62% of children aged 8 to 17 have had an unpleasant online experience. Have you ever had to enter a parent's email address when signing up for a website? That safety net is there because of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The law says sites for kids under 13 cannot collect personal information, such as a phone number or full name, without a parent's permission (允許). This July, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will update COPPA for the first time since the law was created, in 1998 — when there were no smartphones. “The nature of the way kids get online has changed,” FTC lawyer Phyllis Marcus said. When the changes take effect, COPPA will apply to (適用于) mobile devices and newer forms of advertising. It will expand what falls under “personal information” to include videos, photographs and services that give user location (位置). COPPA doesn't cover everything that can go wrong onilne. That's why kids and parents need to know what to look out for and to stop and think before sharing information online. “There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA, it is totally safe,” says privacy expert Shai Samet. He runs kidSAFE, which checks whether a site meets kidSAFE standards and is safe. “It's important that kids know how useful the Internet is but that it also can be dangerous if you are not careful,” he adds. 1.Julian's parents check his web use to make sure ______. A.he doesn't watch too many videos B.he doesn't play computer games C.he stays safe on the Internet D.he controls his online time 解析:選C 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第二段中的“To keep him safe online, his parents monitor (監(jiān)測(cè)) his web use”可知,Julian的父母監(jiān)測(cè)他的上網(wǎng)情況是為了確保他的網(wǎng)絡(luò)安全。 2.How does the author explain children's unpleasant online experiences? A.By describing his own experiences. B.By presenting scientific research. C.By showing differences. D.By using examples. 根據(jù)第三段中的“A study found that 62% of children aged 8 to 17 have had an unpleasant online experience.” 3.People often hold the wrong idea that ________. A.formal websites are always safe B.the Internet is becoming safer and safer C.COPPA can ensure their complete safety D.daily checks prevent future online problems 解析:選C 推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段中的“There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA, it is totally safe”可知,人們認(rèn)為遵循COPPA法案的網(wǎng)站可以確保他們上網(wǎng)的絕對(duì)安全,然而事實(shí)表明,這是錯(cuò)誤的觀念。 4.What's the main purpose of the text? A.To ask parents to look out for their kids. B.To tell people to be careful online. C.To offer tips on online safety. D.To introduce an online law. 通讀全文可知,由于上網(wǎng)的方式在發(fā)生改變,因此相應(yīng)的確保上網(wǎng)安全的法案也要進(jìn)行更新調(diào)整,特別是文章最后一句中的“it also can be dangerous if you are not careful”點(diǎn)明文章主旨,即:告誡人們?cè)谏暇W(wǎng)時(shí)應(yīng)該小心謹(jǐn)慎。 Recently __1__ Internet slang word Foxi has become popular, encouraging young people to remain calm and peaceful and avoid conflict(沖突) as much as possible, __2__ other words, to live with an “I don't care” attitude. The word __3__ (create) in Japan in 2014 to describe young men who no longer bother to start relationships with women or follow someone else's life path. They prefer to stay in their own world without __4__ (disturb) and care little about passion and success. Now, Chinese Internet users are pairing (把……組成一對(duì)) the word with other words to describe a similar mindset (心態(tài)). For example, “Foxi students” are those __5__ study just the right amount — they don't cut class, but they don't burn the midnight oil, either. However, some feel __6__(worry) about it, for they say that Foxi actually reflects (考慮) the __7__ (real) that young people are losing their will __8__ (fight). They are pretending to keep a healthy and wise attitude toward failure __9__ (simple) because they're unable to succeed. But no matter what, there is one thing that “Foxi youngsters” should keep in mind: you may want to keep a calm mindset about failure,__10__ you should also be positive about school, work and life. 1.a(chǎn)n 考查冠詞。 根據(jù)固定搭配in other words“換句話說”可知,此處應(yīng)用介詞in。 根據(jù)語(yǔ)境可知,該句主語(yǔ)“The word”為單數(shù)和create之間是被動(dòng)關(guān)系,故用被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài);根據(jù)句中的“in 2014”可知,此處應(yīng)用一般過去時(shí),故應(yīng)填was created。 9
