閱讀理解A(2019·日照檢測(cè))Along with the standard pigments(顏料) and paintbrushes, artist Sean Yoro(known as Hula),requires an unconventional piece of equipment for his particular brand of mural(壁畫) making:a paddleboard. The Hawaiian muralist, balanced on the top of the floating platform, describes women from various sites across the world, whose homelands are often threatened by the effects of global warming. For his most recent project, titled“What If You Fly”,Hula traveled to Baffin Island, off the coast of Nunavut,Canada,to paint a portrait of local Inuit woman Jesse Mike, who lives there with her daughter. In a short film telling of the artist's process,Mike explains her frustrating previous experiences working with filmmakers who reported on the terrible circumstances troubling her endangered landscape.“For most people,it's about the polar bears,it's not about the people,”she said.“Well, let's make it about the people.”Hula and his team spent 14 hours searching for the perfect iceberg canvas(油畫布),knowing all the while that the ice itself, and any image created on the top of it,would soon melt away into nothing.“It's a little ambitious to do this largerthanlife ice mural in the Arctic, and somehow,at the same time, make a connection to the human culture,”climber and filmmaker Renan Ozturk said of the project. When Hula found his proper ice,he painted a portrait of Jesse he took earlier on his camera.Working against the power of time and Mother Nature, the artist aimed to finish as much of Jesse's portrait as he could before the iceberg disappeared. The massive image,Hula's most remote and technically challenging piece yet, communicates a memorable realitythe consequences of climate change, first and foremost, affect people.【語(yǔ)篇解讀】本文主要敘述了壁畫大師Hula去往Baffin Island,通過(guò)在冰上畫一位因紐特女性的肖像來(lái)提醒人們氣候變化的后果正在影響人類這一現(xiàn)實(shí)。1What is“What If You Fly”?AA film about the muralist.BA woman called Jesse Mike.CA painting based on a local Inuit.DA project conducted by Hula.D 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第三段中的“For his most recent project, titledWhat If You Fly,Hula traveled to Baffin Island”可知,“What If You Fly”是Hula最近進(jìn)行的一個(gè)項(xiàng)目。故選D項(xiàng)。2Why did Jesse Mike complain about some filmmakers?AThey didn't focus on human beings.BThey only reported on terrible circumstances.CThey just reported on frustrating experiences.DThey showed no sympathy to the endangered landscape. 根據(jù)第四段中的“For most people,it's about the polar bears,it's not about the people”可以看出,Jesse抱怨那些電影制作人只關(guān)注氣候變化對(duì)當(dāng)?shù)貏?dòng)物的影響,而不關(guān)注當(dāng)?shù)厝恕?Why did Hula paint images on the Arctic ice?AHe wanted to show his unconventional painting.BHe was ambitious enough to explore Mother Nature.CHe made an attempt to paint on varieties of materials.DHe warned people of the consequences of global warming.D 推理判斷題。根據(jù)全文尤其是最后一段中的“the consequences of climate change, first and foremost, affect people”可知,Hula把畫畫到北極冰川上是為了警告人們?nèi)蜃兣暮蠊?What can be the best title for the text?AA Muralist and an InuitBMother Nature,Massive ImagesCArctic Ice Painting,Memorable RealityDStandard Tools,Unconventional PaintingsC 標(biāo)題判斷題。 Every human being,no matter what he is doing, gives off body heat. The usual problem is how to get rid of it.But the designers of the Johnstown campus(校園) of the University of Pittsburgh(commonly referred to as Pitt) set themselves the opposite problemhow to collect body heat. They have designed a collection system which uses not only body heat, but the heat given off by such objects as light bulbs and refrigerators as well. The system works so well that no fuel is needed to make the campus's six buildings comfortable. Some parts of most modern buildingstheaters and offices as well as classrooms, are more sufficiently heated by people and lights and sometimes must be airconditioned even in winter. The technique of saving heat and redistributing(重新分配) it is called“heat recovery”A few modern buildings recover heat, but the campus's system is the first to recover heat from buildings and reuse it in others.Along the way,Pitt has learned a great deal about some of its producers. The harder a student studies, the more heat his body gives off.Male students send out more heat than female students, and the larger a student is,the more heat he produces. We may conclude that the_hottest_prospect for the Johnstown campus would be a hardworking overweight male genius.【語(yǔ)篇解讀】本文是一篇說(shuō)明文,主要介紹了Pittsburgh大學(xué)的“熱回收”技術(shù)。5The heat in the heating system of the Johnstown campus is supplied _Aby human bodiesBby both human bodies and other heatgiving objectsCby both human bodies and commonlyused fuelDby human bodies, commonlyused fuel and other heatgiving objectsB 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第一段中的“They have designed a collection system which uses not only body heat, but the heat given off by such objects as light bulbs and refrigerators as well”可知,這種收集系統(tǒng)不僅使用人體的熱量,還使用像燈泡和冰箱這種物體散發(fā)出的熱量。故選B。6According to the passage, the technique of“heat recovery” is used _Ato find the producers of heatBto provide heat for the hot water systemCto make the campus more beautifulDto collect heat and reuse itD 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第二段中的“system is the first to recover heat from buildings and reuse it”可知,“熱回收”技術(shù)是收集熱量,然后再次使用熱量。故選D。7The underlined phrase“the hottest prospect”in Paragraph 3 refers to _Athe person who suffers most from heatBthe person who needs more heat than othersCthe person who gives off most heatDthe person who makes better use of heatC 詞義猜測(cè)題。 C。8Which of the following may be the best title for this passage?AA New Heat Recovery System in PittBModern Building's Heat SystemCBody Heat and Its ProducersDWays of Heating BuildingsA 標(biāo)題判斷題。 A項(xiàng)符合題意,故選A。. When I was four,I was a painter armed with a big box of crayons.Somehow, the love it!It's happy!I feel like I have a new closet!”Now,many years later,my childhood artwork is still there.Every time I open it,I remember that, big as the white closet seemed when I was little,my mother's _20_ was the biggest thing of all.【語(yǔ)篇解讀】本文是一篇記敘文。 12A.broke down Bcame upCgot off Dwent awayB 根據(jù)本段前三句可以推斷作者突然產(chǎn)生一種與人分享喜悅的想法,所以選came up(出現(xiàn))。break down“分解,出故障,失敗”,get off“(使)動(dòng)身,(從)下來(lái)”,go away“離開(kāi)”,均不符合語(yǔ)境。 ambitious“野心勃勃的,有雄心的”;energetic“精力充沛的”;pleasant“令人愉快的”。 addicted“沉迷的”;ashamed“羞愧的”;embarrassed“尷尬的”。 traditionally“傳統(tǒng)上”;strangely“奇怪地”;naturally“自然”。 - 8 -
