AAs I began my junior year of college, I began to think of plans after graduation. I knew that I wanted to work in the field of my major, public relations. But I also knew that it was difficult to find a position considering my inexperience. That was when I decided to pursue an internship(實習(xí)工作)So I chose to talk to my advisor first. He had worked in the field of public relations for many years before he became a professor, and therefore had numerous contacts and associates in the field. After talking to him about a few of the positions, I decided to pursue the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund because of my interest in the arts and the passion I would feel working for a nonprofit organization. I sent out a cover letter and a resume and was hired on the spot in the interview.I soon began my position. After class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would drive to work and apply all the skills I was learning in the classroom. I was amazed at the amount of practical knowledge in class that was directly applicable to my internship position. It became a very useful and beneficial experience. Not only was I working for arts organizations and seeing my name printed on documents I had created, but also gaining confidence in my skills and myself. As the semester came to a close, I finished my work with the Fine Arts Fund. Although I didnt take away any money for the internship, I gained many different kinds of experience and the knowledge that I was capable of acplishing professional tasks. And that kind of confidence was invaluable to me as I sat down to interview for my next internship.【解題導(dǎo)語】作者上大三時就開始考慮自己的未來,考慮到實習(xí)經(jīng)驗在就業(yè)中的重要性,作者在導(dǎo)師的建議下找到了一個實習(xí)崗位,盡管沒有掙到錢,但是所積累的經(jīng)驗讓作者感到很值得。1Why did the author seek an internship first before graduation?ABecause he wanted to learn more from an internship.BBecause he could make more money from an internship.CBecause he was more interested in an internship.DBecause he lacked work experience and skills.D解析:細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第一段第三句中的it was difficult to find a position considering my inexperience 可知,考慮到自己經(jīng)驗不足,找份工作有點難,所以作者決定找一份實習(xí)的工作。故選D項。2Why did the writer turn to his advisor for help first?ABecause his advisor was working in the field.BBecause his advisor could give him some help.CBecause he got along well with his advisor.DBecause he had mon interests with his advisor.B解析:推理判斷題。 3What did the author think of his internship?ARewarding.BBoring.CRelaxing. DTiring.A解析:推理判斷題。 故選A項。BSeveral decades ago, educators in the USA began to call attention to a national problem: most students leave American schools without the mathematical skills needed for jobs or for higher education. This was especially true for female and minority students. The Educational Testing Service reported that, in an international survey, American teenagers had the lowest math scores. This situation has been defined as “innumeracy”, or the inability to grasp the basic idea of mathematics.Mathematicians, teachers, and scientists were alarmed by these findings. They looked for the reasons and decided that, in addition to poor education, there are many psychological blocks.Embarrassment about not knowing math can lead to fear in the classroom.Fear can lead to silence because students do not want to draw attention to their lack of knowledge. As a result, those students fall further and further behind.Low_visibility_in_the_classroom_has_not_always_been_recognized_as_a_silent_call_for_help.Math educators decided to try to change that.Math reform is beginning with the educators themselves.Teachers are now being trained to recognize and to help students work through “math anxiety”the roadblock on their way to gaining petence in mathematics. In addition, math textbooks are being updated to help students understand that math is not a sort of foreign language of numbers.Math is a tool that helps us to analyze patterns and structures, and to discover relationships.Traditional puting skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are still being taught, of course. However, there is added emphasis on logical thinking and creative problem solving, to which there may be several equally valid solutions.【解題導(dǎo)語】本文講述了美國學(xué)生無法掌握數(shù)學(xué)基本概念的現(xiàn)象、原因及相應(yīng)的對策。4What does the underlined sentence probably mean?AStudents with low scores fear to ask their teachers for help.BPoor equipment in classrooms limits teens chances to learn.CMath anxiety, hardly noticed, is actually a silent call for help.DPoorsighted students cant see clearly, which is a silent call for help.C解析:句意理解題。根據(jù)上下文及畫線句前面的“Embarrassment about not knowing math can lead to fear in the classroom.Fear can lead to silence because students do not want to draw attention to their lack of knowledge.” 5Which may lead to American students innumeracy?AThe methods of teaching.BThe difficulty of math itself.CStudents lack of interest in math.DSchools not attaching enough value to it.A解析:細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第二段中的“in addition to poor education”及第四段的內(nèi)容尤其是“Math reform is beginning with the educators themselves.Teachers are now being trained to recognize and to help students.gaining petence in mathematics.” 6What may be discussed in the following paragraph?AWhat to be taught in Americas revised math programs.BHow to make math reform actually benefit American students.CHow to improve teens logical thinking and problemsolving abilities.DWhy traditional puting skills are necessary in mathematics education.C解析:推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段中的“there is added emphasis on logical thinking and creative problem solving, to which there may be several equally valid solutions”可知,文章接下來可能會陳述有關(guān)怎樣提高學(xué)生的邏輯思維能力及創(chuàng)造性地解決問題的能力方面的內(nèi)容,故選C。7What is the passage mainly about?AMathematic skills needed for higher education.BThe features of Americas mathematics education.CImprovements in mathematics education in the US.DThe importance of mathematics education in the US.C解析:主旨大意題。 I lived in Dallas, Texas nearly all my life with my dad, mom and younger brother.
