2013高考英語(yǔ)(閱讀理解)25分鐘沖刺訓(xùn)練(10) 及答案解析 (第*篇)Computer programmer David Jones earns 35,000 a year designing new computer games, yet he cannot find a bank ready to let him have a credit card(信用卡). Instead,he has been told to wait another two years, until he is 18. The 16yearold works for a small firm in Liverpool, where the problem of most young people of his age is finding a job. Davids firm releases (推出) two new games for the fast growing computer market each month. But Davids biggest headache is what to do with his money. Even though he earns a lot, he cannot drive a car, take out a mortgage (抵押貸款), or get credit cars. David got his job with the Liverpool-based company four months ago, a year after leaving school with six O-levels and working for a time in a computer shop. “I got the job because the people who run the firm knew I had already written some programs, ”he said. David spends some of his money on records and clothes, and gives his mother 50 pounds a week. But most of his spare time is spent working.“Unfortunately, computing was not part of our studies at school,”he said. “But I had been studying it in books and magazines for four years in my spare time. I knew what I wanted to do and never considered staying on at school. Most people in this business are fairly young, anyway. ”David added:“I would like to earn a million and I suppose early retirement (退休)is a possibility. You never know when the market might disappear.” 1. In what way is David different from people of his age?A. He often goes out with friends.B. But now scientists are giving this feeling an empirical (經(jīng)驗(yàn)的,實(shí)證的) basis. They are discovering how to design spaces that promote creativity, keep people focused, and lead to relaxation.Researches show that aspects of the physical environment can influence creativity. In 2007, Joan Meyers-Levy at the University of Minnesota, reported that the height of a rooms ceiling affects how people think. Her research indicates that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely, which may lead them to make more abstract connections. Low ceilings, on the other hand, may inspire a more detailed outlook. In addition to ceiling height, the view afforded by a building may influence an occupants ability to concentrate. Nancy Wells and her colleagues at Cornell University found in their study that kids who experienced the greatest increase in greenness as a result of a family move made the most gains on a standard test of attention.Using nature to improve focus of attention ought to pay off academically, and it seems to according to a study led by C. Kenneth Tanner, head of the School Design & Planning Laboratory at the University of Georgia. Tanner and his team found that students in classrooms with unblocked views of at least 50 feet outside the window had higher scores on tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than did students whose classrooms primarily overlooked roads and parking lots.Recent study on room lighting design suggests that dim(暗淡的) light helps people to loosen up. If that is true generally, keeping the light low during dinner or at parties could increase relaxation. Researchers of Harvard Medical School also discovered that furniture with rounded edges could help visitors relax. So far scientists have focused mainly on public buildings. “We have a very limited number of studies, so were_almost_looking_at_the_problem_through_a_straw_(吸管),” architect David Allison says. “How do you take answers to very specific questions and make broad, generalized use of them? Thats what were all struggling with.” 1. What does Joan Meyers-Levy focus on in her research?A. Light. B. Ceilings.C. Which of the following shows the organization of the passage?CP: Central PointP: PointSp: Sub-point (次要點(diǎn))C: Conclusion解析推理判斷題。 答案C*結(jié)束 (第*篇)I suddenly heard an elephant crying as though frightened. Looking down ,I immediately recognized that something was wrong, and ran down to the edge of the near bank. There I saw Ma Shwe with her three-month-old calf struggling in the fast-rising water, and it was a life-and-death struggle. Her calf was floating and screaming with fear. Ma Shwe was as near to the far bank as she could get, holding her whole body against the rushing water, and keeping the calf pressed against her huge body. Every now and then the rushing water would sweep the calf away. There was a sudden rise in the water and the calf was washed clean over the mothers body and was gone. Ma Shwe turned quickly to reach it and pressed the calf with her head and trunk(象鼻) against the rocky bank. Then with a huge effort, she picked it up in her trunk and tried until she was able to place it on a narrow shelf of rock.Just at this moment, she fell back into the river. If she were carried down,it would be certain death. I knew, as well as she did, that there was one spot (地點(diǎn)) where she could get up the bank, but it was on the other side from where she had put her calf. While I was wondering what I could do next, I heard the sound of a mothers love. Ma Shwe had crossed the river and got up the bank and was making her way back as fast as she could, roaring(吼叫) all the time, but to her calf it was music. 1. A Matter of Life and Death解析主旨大意題。 While I was wondering what I could do next,I heard the sound of a mothers love. 答案A*結(jié)束 (第*篇)“In only six days I lost seven pounds of weight.”“Two full inches in the first three days !”These are the kinds of statements used in magazine, newspaper, radio and television ads, promising new shapes and new looks to those who buy the medicine or the device. The promoters of such products say they can shape the legs, slim the face, smooth wrinkles,or in some other way add to beauty or desirability.Often such products are nothing more than money-making things for their promoters. The results they produce are questionable, and some are dangerous to health. To understand how these products can be legally promoted to the public,it is necessary to understand something of the laws covering their regulation. If the product is a drug, FDA ( Food and Drug Administration) can require proof(證明) under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that it is safe and effective before it is put on the market. But if the product is a device,F(xiàn)DA has no authority to require pre-marketing proof of safety or effectiveness. If a product already on the market is a danger to health, FDA can request the producer or distributor to remove it from the market voluntarily, or it can take legal action, including seizure (查封) of the product. One notable case a few years ago involved an electrical device called the Relaxacisor, which had been sold for reducing the waistline. The Relaxacisor produced electrical shocks to the body through contact pads. FDA took legal action against the distributor to stop the sale of the devices on the grounds that it was dangerous to health and life.Obviously, most of the devices on the market have never been the subject of court proceedings(法律訴訟), and new devices appear continually. Before buying, it is up to judge the consumer to judge the safety or effectiveness of such items. 1. It can be inferred that the ads mentioned in the text are_.A. objectiveB. costlyC. unreliable D. illegal解析推理判斷題。 C2. Which of the following is true according to the text?AThe court is in charge of removing dangerous products.B. New products are more likely to be questionable.C. The production of a device must be approved by FDA.D. The promoters usually just care about profits.
