Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray StoryIn my spare time I often immerse myself in the English movies and watching them is one of my favourite things.Through them we can not only learn more English but widen our horizon to know about more cultural difference between China and the West.Hence I chose Appreciation of English Films as my only public selective course.Over the past few months I have seen a host of movies such as Forrest Gump，American Beauty and The English Patient and so on.Most of them are classical which have made a great impression on me.However,I tend to write a film review article on Homelss to Harvard:The Liz Murry Story which hasn’t yet been shown in the class.As for me,it makes more sense and inspires me to overcome any obstacles in my life. Homeless to Harvard is an American movie made in 2003 which is based on a real moving story of Liz Murray who went from living on the streets to graduating from Harvard University after years of hard work with a sheer determination. Thora Birch plays Liz in this drama and she does a wonderful job in her role which vividly expresses the steel determination of Liz with dignity and style.In the movie Liz grew up in an unfortunate family whose parents were both drug addicts.When she was 15 years old Liz’s mom died of AIDS and her dad was taken into the hospice.What a tough life it is！Liz even didn’t have proper clothing and she had to avoid her classmates.Poor as she is,Liz didn’t lose heart.She bore in mind that she must go to school and fight with fate.Liz went to school while homeless and her dad was in shelter.At school，Liz concentrated on her study and made great progress.Meanwhile she had an opportunity for visit- ing Boston where she went to Havard for her first time.It’s that time when she decided to realize her dream. Eventually she achieved her wish and became very successful.Liz’s story motivates the people who aspire to success throughout the world.Everyone tends to encounter a diversity of difficulties inevitably.What should we do when we met them? Liz teach us to be faced with them bravely and confidently whatever condition you are in.We can make it clear that the movie reflects the cultural of the West，that is，self-help spirit and the American Dream.God helps those who help thems- elves.Everyone has its own right to pursue his dream regardless of his status and race.
