Teaching method: PWP teaching methodTeaching PlansPre-reading(1min): 1. Lead-in : present the topic wordrainforest (divide the word into two parts: rain+forest) T: It is raining today and the ground is so wet. Be careful when walking! And today,we are going to learn a topic related to the word “rain”, it is a kind of forest called rainforest. 2. Look at the pictures and ask: what are rainforests like in your eyes? (Teaching purposes: to arouse students reading interest and activate the schema of rainforests already in students mind by showing pictures and discussing.) While-reading(8min):1. Reading-task One: Scan the passage and find the answers to two related questions. T: Now you have 5 minutes to read the passage carefully. While reading, think about two questions: What are rainforests? & Why are rainforests important to us? lets get started. (5mins later) Ask students: How many paragraphs in this passage? What is each paragraph mainly talking about? (Write on the blackboard: Features of rainforests& Importance of rainforests) 2. Reading-task Two: Read together and catch some key words and information. Ask students: Whats the difference, rainforests and forests? (para 1) (look at the first 3 sentences) Whats the number of rainforests? How many animals are living in rainforests? Where do animals live in forests? Ask students: Whats the topic sentence?(First sentence)(para 2) Without rainforests, what will happen? What can we get from rainforests?3. Review and conclusion: Ask students: After reading, do you know the style of this passage? (T:This passage is an exposition. And in this passage, we have learned what are rainforests and why are rainforests important to us. And in the end, the writer actually leaves us another question how to protect rainforests? Thats we need to think about.) Conclusion: So we can learn the basic structure of expository articles.
