Mutter was also one of the worlds youngest professors. Born in Rheinfelden on June 29, 1963, AnnerSophie grew up in Wehr, a small town just five kilometers from the Swiss border. Her father, Karl Wilhelm Mutter, and her mother, Gerlinde, considered music lessons part of a good education. Thus, their first son, Andreas, began practicing the violin at eight, and his younger brother, Christoph, had piano lessons. It came as no surprise when AnnerSophie said she wanted a violin for her fifth birthday. Her parents thought she was too young for the violin, and persuaded her to start on the piano. But AnnerSophie has always had a mind of her own. “I longed to play the violin,” she said.“It seemed to me a much more interesting instrument.” After six months, her parents gave in. The famous violin teacher Erna Honigberger, who lived nearby, became AnnerSophis tutor(家庭教師). After only nine months of lessons, she entered the sixyearold in a nationwide competition for young musicians. With Christoph accompanying her(為她伴奏)on the piano, AnnerSophies won first prize. In 1974, Erna Honigberger died.AnnerSophies new teacher was Aida Stucki. She taught AnnerSophe to develop her own ideas on how a piece should be played, not just to imitate(模仿)others. This is one of the violinists strongest, most distinctive characteristics(與眾不同的特點(diǎn))today. Though the Mutters were short of money at times, they limited their daughters performances to one or two a year. “We are glad we went the family road,” said her father. “No outsider(外人)can ever have an effect on our daughters career(生涯) or push her into playing more concerts than she wants to.” Later she was allowed to give six to eight concerts a year and make some recordings. Only when she turned 18 did she begin her professional career. 11.It was________when AnnerSophie asked for a violin. A.surprising B.great C.usual D.possible 答案 C [細(xì)節(jié)考查題。 It came as no surprise when AnnerSophie said she wanted a violin for her fifth birthday. 12.AnnerSophies career dates back to________. A.the late 1960s B.her family education C.the late 1970s D.her fifth birthday 答案 A [推理判斷題。 故選A項(xiàng)。] 13.AnnSophies concerts are________. A.limited to one or two a year B.a(chǎn)ccompanied at the piano by Christoph C.highly praised throughout the world D.a(chǎn)ppreciated by professors London 答案 C [細(xì)節(jié)考查題。 14.Which sentence shows Annersophies strong point as a violinist? A.She wanted a violin for her fifth birthday. B.She has always had a mind of her own. C.She had two famous violin teachers. D.Violin seemed to her a much more interesting instrument. 根據(jù)文中的:...to develop her own ideas on how a piece should be played, not just to imitate others... 15.The virtue(美德) the Mutters have is that they believe________. A.children should learn music B.money is not everything C.AnnerSophie was too young to give concerts D.parents have a great effect upon their children 答案 B [細(xì)節(jié)考查題。 No outsider can ever have an effect on our daughters career or push her into playing more concerts than she wants to. B In bringing up children, every parent watches eagerly the childs acquisition (學(xué)會(huì)) of each new skill in the first spoken words, the first independent steps, or the beginning of reading and writing. It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child. This might happen at any stage. A baby might be forced to use a toilet too early, a young child might be encouraged to learn to read before he knows the meaning of the words he reads. On the other hand, though, if a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities, he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself. Parents vary greatly in their degree of strictness towards their children. Some may be especially strict in money matters. Others are severe (嚴(yán)格的) over time of coming home at night or punctuality for meals. In general, the controls represent the needs of the parents and the values of the community as much as the childs own happiness. As regards the development of moral standards in the growing child, consistency is very important in parental teaching. To forbid a thing one day and excuse it the next is no foundation for morality (道德). Also, parents should realize that “example is better than precept”. If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach (說教), their children may grow confused when they grow old enough to think for themselves, and realize they have been to some extent fooled. A sudden awareness of a marked difference between their parents principles and their morals can be a dangerous disappointment. 16.Eagerly watching the childs acquisition of new skills________. A.should be avoided B.is universal among parents C.sets up dangerous states of worry in the child D.will make the child lose interest in learning new things 答案 B [推理判斷題。 In bringing up children, every parent watches eagerly the childs acquisition of each new skill,既然是每位父母都會(huì)這樣做,那么這種做法在父母中就是普遍的,故選B。 sets up dangerous states of worry in the child是由hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate,引起的,“迫不及待地要求孩子做超出其自然成長(zhǎng)速度的事情”和“熱切地觀察孩子學(xué)會(huì)每一項(xiàng)新技能”顯然不是一回事,作者對(duì)后者沒有否定之意,所以A不對(duì)。 D。will make him lose interest in learning new things是由a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities引起的。 17.In the process of childrens learning new skills, parents________. A.should encourage them to read before they know the meaning of the words they read B.should expect a lot of the children C.should achieve a balance between pushing them too hard and leaving them on their own D.should create as many learning opportunities as possible 答案 C [推理判斷題。文章第一自然段第二句It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child,說明在孩子成長(zhǎng)過程中,父母不能拔苗助長(zhǎng)。 On the other hand, though,if a child is left alone too much,or without any learning opportunities,he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself,說明對(duì)孩子太放任自流同樣不利。 18.The second paragraph mainly tells us that________. A.parents should be strict with their children B.parental controls reflect only the values of the community C.parental restrictions vary, and are not always for the benefit of the children alone D.its parents and societys duty to control the children 答案 C [主旨大意題。 19.The word “precept” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”. A.opinion B.punishment C.behavior D.instruction 答案 D [詞義推測(cè)題。四個(gè)選項(xiàng)的意思分別是:opinion (觀點(diǎn));punishment(懲罰);behviour(行為);instruction(說教,源于instruct)。 Also, parents should realize that “example is better than precept”.If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach,(說教)…… 20.In terms of moral matters, parents should________. A.follow the rules themselves B.be aware of the huge difference between adults and children C.forbid their children to follow book teachings D.a(chǎn)lways ensure the security of their children 答案 A [推理判斷題。 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 【參考范文】 XinHua High School Celebrated the New Year On the evening of December 31, 2010, the party to celebrate the New Year was held in the Concert Hall of XinHua High School.
